Ex Kiwi harness racing mare Watch Me Now has destroyed her racing rivals in her debut start on USA soil, winning by a good margin as one of the outsiders at The Meadowlands this afternoon.
Driven by down under horseman Todd McCarthy, Watch Me Now led early and then raced in the pocket before exploding in the straight to easily put away a good field in 1:49.3
Watch Me Now (He’s Watching – Mach N Elle – Mach Three) has now been in North America for four weeks including a week spent in quarantine after first arriving.
It has not been plain sailing getting there for the tough mare though! The trip to the USA was delayed for nearly four months due to covid, before Greg Northcote and NZ Bloodstock managed to put on a special flight enabling her and a few other horses to make the journey overseas.
Watch Me Now created a reputation down under as a tough staying mare with a ton of speed. She showed that when beating most of the top mares in the NZ Standardbred Breedersā Stakes at one of her last few starts in New Zealand, winning in record time (1:55.8MR) for a mobile 2600m.
Now owned by Curtin ANZ stables, Watch Me Now is starting to make a big impression on her trainer Kelvin Harrison and driver Todd McCarthy, suggesting she will do a good job in her new racing career against the best North America has to offer.
