Ex Kiwi trotter Credit Master has caused a huge upset in the the first of the harness racing Group Ones at Menangle tonight.
At his third start in Australia, the son of Muscle Mass won the $50,000 Group 1 Aquagait Equine Centre Trotters Mile with a tough performance for trainer Matthew Craven and driver Sofia Arvidsson.
Credit Master and Arvidsson had to race parked out for the majority of the race with the two favourites Temporale and Tough Monarch duelling it out on top.
In the straight Credit Master, a $71 chance, showed grit to shoot clear and held on to beat a fast finishing Doff Your Cap and Andoverlov. Temporale was fourth making it a Kiwi first four.
Credit Master trotted the 1609m journey in 1:53.1 with a closing 800m run in 56.9 seconds.
“I really didn’t expect that,” said Arvidsson.
“He hasn’t had the ideal preparation this week with the wet weather, we had to move twice and he has been a bit stressed not eating.
“I haven’t done a lot of work with him but he just kept giving and had plenty left in the tank.
“I’m in shock.”
