Despite the twenty minute intervals scheduled for between races at Thursday’s (Oct. 10) Fast 10 meeting at Ascot Park, Ryal Bush harness racing trainer Brett Gray has no worries.
He has some strong chances in the quick fire meeting which starts at 5-33pm and will be all done and dusted by 8 o’clock.
In the first, Rewiri Hill (Muscle Hill) makes his debut. He’s a half-brother to the well performed Full Noise and Afterburner and has had a couple of recent workouts to get him ready for his debut.
“He’s been going okay at the workouts and has been solid. He’s just a bit on the weak side. He’s such a big slabby fella who will get there in time,” Gray says.
Quality mare Peregrine (Pegasus Spur) faces a thirty metre handicap in her 2200 metre assignment with her main rival Minnie McGoogan running off the front line.
“We’re going into this race fresh. She got a bit crook after her last start. If she makes one of her usual good beginnings the thirty metres will really be only twenty metres. Hopefully it won’t be a bridge too far.”
Two year old A Major Starr (Art Major) returns to the track. His first two starts were in group races, and he resumes with two winning workouts under his belt.
“He’s a bit of a smart bum but he can run a bit. He probably would have been a better chance if he’d drawn better because he likes to dictate. What he does on Thursday he’ll improve on.”
New Zealand Oaks bound Joes Rock (Racing Hill) has been impressive since her return after a mid season break, running second two starts back, and winning at Wyndham two weeks ago. She has a wide draw but has the services of Blair Orange.
“She’s a lot better behaved this time in and is steering a lot better. She’s my best bet.”
In the last, Gray has Jaccka Opa (A Rocknroll Dance) down to start. His form is in and out.
“I never know where I’m at with this fella. At the workouts two weeks ago he was disappointing and then he ran a slasher last week. He’s a funny horse and we’ll see what Jaccka Opa turns up.”
