Ryal Bush harness racing trainer Hamish Hunter has five starters on Bluff Cup Day at Ascot Park on Saturday (Jun. 3).
Three year old filly Better Be Watching (He’s Watching) draws gate five in Race One. She has better form than most in the 2200 metre race and will be driven by Peter Hunter.
“She went very well at her last start with no luck. She’s drawn well so one would hope she’d get a nice run. Let’s hope things go well for her,” Hunter said, labelling her as one of his two better chances.
Ledger’s Maid (Franco Ledger) and Carbon Copy (Sportswriter) are running in Race Two.
Ledger’s Maid has solid form and gets a nice gate to work with (3). She’ll be handled by stable driver Tom Nally.
“She’s not a real strong maidener but given a handy draw and a soft run she always gives a good account of herself. She’s got a nice draw and didn’t have any luck in her last run. She’s consistent if she gets the right run.”
Carbon Copy draws the outside gate in the field of eight and will need luck from there.
“He’s had a few issues in life and it’s taken a while to get the better of them. He’s now put two nice runs at the workouts together and he looks handy enough. He’s drawn terrible but it’s a small field so that’ll help him out. He has got ability.”
I’m Watching You (He’s Watching) and Fireforefiddle (He’s Watching) run in the stable colours in Race Four.
I’m Watching is the winner of six races and has a good draw at gate three.
“He’s no world beater but if he gets a nice run he always gives a good account of himself. He’s drawn handy to get a nice run. Invercargill is one of his favourite tracks, he’s my other best bet.”
Fireforefiddle the winner of eight races, isn’t ideally placed in this race with a wide draw. He’ll be handled by Peter Hunter.
“The draw has probably put him out of it. A full field around Invercargill over 2200 metres, he’s going to need a bit of lotto luck to get anything I would think. You never know in racing but that draw’s a real tricky one for him.”
