Any doubts that Leap To Fame (Bettors Delight) had suffered any ill effects from his recent Victorian trip were quickly dispelled when the five year old demolished his harness racing rivals in the Battle of Beersheba Free for All at Menangle Park.
There were some concerns when Leap to Form caught a chill that forced his untimely withdrawal from the Victoria Cup a fortnight ago.
However last night Leap to Fame wasnāt hustled early and when the race settled down driver Grant Dixon sent him around the field at the 1500 metre mark.
Showing his relentless style and characteristic brilliance Leap to Fame put his rivals to the sword on straightening and Dixon simply nursed the star to easily defeat veteran Max Delight, Don Lou and Nyack who were all gallant in chasing home the winner.
LEAP TO FAME REPLAY
His mile rate of 1.51.9 was only just short of the current world record of 1.51.4 for 2300 metres. And there were plenty on course who thought that he could have shaken the record if pushed further.
Dixon stated after the event āHe felt well, felt strong. He wanted to go along. I was lucky enough early and when I saw Nerano in front I thought that Iād pop around. Iāll discuss with owners Kevin and Kay Seymour and all being well weāll leave tomorrow week Sunday for New Zealand and weāll get him to look at a standing start eventā.
Owner Kevin Seymour seemed to indicate that the trip to New Zealand for the New Zealand Cup is still on but also intimated that they may start Leap to Fame in the Tamworth Cup on 17 January as part of the New South Wales country cup series.
This would set up an intriguing clash with Swayzee whose connections are aiming for the $1 million bonus should he win all five events.
