After being treated for an infection after his last start fourth, Miraculous (Bettor’s Delight) got back into the winning habit at the Wyndham Harness Racing Club meeting today.
The classy three year old impressively won his first two starts before running fourth at the Wairio meeting in February and was subsequently treated.
In today’s $20,000 Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes Heat, trainer driver Nathan Williamson settled the gelding at the back of the small field with Dawson setting the pace. At the 500 Williamson got a nice cart into the race on the back of Harrison John. Just before the leaders balanced up for the run home he pulled Miraculous out and he let down with purpose to beat Harrison John by half a length with Dawson two lengths back in third.
“Really good. I thought he’d need that run because we hadn’t given him a workout or trial. Ollie (Kite) and Georgia (Goodman) did a super job while I was away by just keeping him up to the mark,” Williamson said.
On the easy track the winning time was 1-56.2
Miraculous will head to the last heat of the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes at Winton on Saturday 13th April with the G2 $60,000 final at Ascot Park on Diamonds Day eight days later.
“I think he’ll keep improving and be suited by the longer trips. Really happy with that because I don’t think he’s a miler. He had to be pretty genuine to win today and pass that other horse (Harrison John).
