You’re So Fine (Always B Miki) became the first locally trained horse to win the Diamond Creek Farm Two Year Old Classic, when he took out the juvenile harness racing feature at Ascot Park in 2021.
Offered by Ripple Creek, he was purchased at the 2020 Standardbred Yearling Sales in Christchurch by trainer Brett Gray for $14,000. He was raced by the Makarewa Country Club Syndicate.
In the 2021 feature driver Nathan Williamson settled the gelding three back on the running line with Cantfindabettorman in the lead. Travelling down the back straight for the last time, Williamson was able to get the two year old off the inside and onto the back of Republican Party. By halfway down the home straight second favourite Franco Indie had hit the lead but You’re So Fine came with a last run and got up to beat Franco Indie by two lengths with Cantfindabettorman holding on for third.
The winning time of 2-39.6 (mile rate of 1-55.7) was a new race, track, Southland and New Zealand record and it still stands.
His win on Diamonds Day was the biggest of Ryal Bush trainer Brett Gray’s career and was part of a great day for Williamson. He also won the Group Two Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes with Ragazzo Mach and the Regent Car Court Southern Country Cups Final with Pembrook Playboy, both of which he also trained.
You’re So Fine has gone on to win ten more races for his new West Australian trainer Gary Hall Senior.
Next Sunday the Invercargill HRC host Diamonds Day at Ascot with a host of feature race including the $110,000 Group One Diamond Creek Farm Two Year Old Classic, the $60,000 Group Two Macca Lodge/Nevele R Southern Oaks, the $60,000 Group Two Alabar Supremacy Stakes, the $50,000 Group Three Entain Two Year Old Mobile Trot and the $40,000 Regent Car Court Southern Country Cups Final.
A truly spectacular day of racing which gets underway at 12 noon.
