Welcome in to our Speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look in the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the feature races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success – how the great families continue to leave the very best.
The trials and workouts to take place at Rangiora on the 24th of September showcase some royal bloodlines and known performers – hereās a look into those that may be worth following in times ahead.
Cool Lucy (Sweet Lou – Cool Sandy) Appearing in the first on the card is this daughter of Sweet Lou. The Boyd trained runner has been seen at both Methven workouts and Rangiora trials of late, running 2nd behind Lullaby as recently as the 12th of September.
Dam Cool Sandy won a solitary race from limited starts but has left her mark as a broodmare with the 53-time winner Betabcool being her first foal – most of those victories coming in North America. Virginia Cool (Mach Three) another close relation, notched up 4 wins herself – all of that winning history making Cool Lucy one to watch.

See No Evil (What The Hill – Bet Pray Love) What the Hill has been doing a great job of leaving some impressive winners of late and See No Evil could well be another that could develop into a nice trotter if the breeding is anything to go by. The 2yr-old is a close relation to the 6-time winner in Love Is Everywhere while grandam Love Hate Revenge has been a phenomenal mother, leaving the star trotter in Majestic Man (Majestic Son) and the 11-time winner in Sol Invictus (Sundon) ‘
This is a breed that constantly finds a way to the winning post before race rivals.

Bautista (Art Major – Pocket Of Jewels) Set to go around in the last heat of the day, this Hanrahan trained 3yr-old is from a breed known for its speed. Dam Pocket Of Jewels, a 5-time winner herself, already has two winning daughters to her name with Fasika (Sweet Lou) winning on debut at Addington and then adding Some 8 additional victories when racing in Australia, and The Vixen (Always B Miki) winning 3 times, again on Australian soil.
We covered a maiden winner from this family in our Clearing Maidens article yesterday, namely Shirley Bassey (Bettorās Delight)
