Welcome in to our latest speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look in the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the feature races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success – how the great families continue to leave the very best.
The trials and workouts taking place at Ashburton on the 22nd of October should offer some interesting storylines going forward with some real quality present among the small card presented. Those to catch the eye include
Moonshiner (Always B Miki – MacFire) John Hay is always a trainer to respect and while the stable hasnāt been seen for some time there should be interest in this son of Always B Miki.
Dam MacFire won 4 from 31 and has matured into a successful broodmare, her progeny including the impressive Franco Macho, winner of 10 , and the star performer Franco Mac (Bettorās Delight) a Gr1 performer with a number of placings when appearing in the features of 2021 and 2022, a notable effort coming in the 3YO Flying Stakes when 2nd to Akuta.
Moonshiner is due to take part in the first of the day having won a workout learners pace on the 14th of this month.
Moonshiner is one to watch and has plenty of breeding to support a successful career on the track
Cheval Noir (Sweet Lou – Pocketfullofposies) An interesting runner out of the Mugford stables, this 4yr-old mare is from a strong damline thatās been known to perform well on the track. Dam Pocketfullofposies went without a win from 10 raceday starts but has left 6 individual winners to date, notably the 19-time winner Mickey McRooney and the 14-time winner Bettors Pocket.
Current runners from the dam include Hit The Lights from the K Green stable.
Cheval Noir looks to qualify in the 5th heat of the day – seen here in early October 21, 2024
Two Jules (Rock N Roll Heaven – Star In The Future) Set to take part in a workout learners pace late in the card this Anderson runner is another interesting read.
Dam Star In The Future won a solitary race but her first foal, Slip The Hundy, a colt by Sir Lincoln has proven himself across Australasia and North America, his record in Australia astonishing with 8 wins being notched up from just 12 starts in the country. Slip The Hundy also went close to securing a Gr3 victory when running 2nd in the Rising Sun Consolation of 2022.
Further back in the damline you find the mother of the greats Iraklis and Ermis in Tuapeka Star.
Two Jules has some winning to do if the breeding behind her is anything to go by (seen here in September)
