Welcome in to our Speed in the breed article. A look into the successful families represented at the trials and workouts.
If you look in the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the feature races youāre likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success – how the great families continue to leave the very best.
The trials and workouts to take place at Ashburton on the 1st of October see some strong fields presented – among them are a few standout bloodlines that could be ones to follow in the coming weeks and months ahead, these include.
King Spider (Bettorās Delight – Carolineās Cullen) The Barron barn is set to bring a couple of prospects into the first unqualified heat of the day with this son of Bettorās Delight catching the eye through the known accomplishments of his mother. Dam Carolineās Cullen was a star of the track, winning just shy of 1/2 a million dollars during a career that saw her compete across Australasia and North America.
Her most memorable displays of talent coming as a 3yr-old when scoring 3 consecutive victories in March and April of 2009 – sheād go on to prove competitive in the 4YO Diamond the year after, finishing a respectable 6th behind Beaudiene Bad Bade at Cambridge.
As a mother sheās already left the impressive Atomic Blast (Auckland reactor) a winner of 7.
King Spider is out of Carolineās Cullen, seen here scoring at Alexandra Park in 2010.
Chaldon (Art Major – Chal Roco) This animal caught the eye last week at trials and so weāll cover his breeding this time around. Ken Barron also trains this son of Art Major. The breed is well known with dam Chal Roco proving herself a capable mother, leaving the likes of Chal Dream (5 wins) Chal Fire (18 wins) Chal Storm (10 wins) and Chal Patch, another son of Art Major who placed at listed level when running 2nd in the Night of Thunder Final at Gloucester Park earlier this year – his winning tally currently standing at 12.
Itās a family that invariably does a nice job on the track so Chaldon is well worth following.
Chaldon closes well late in behind The Lazarus Effect last week at Rangiora trials.
Cruise Denario (A Rocknroll Dance – Averilās Atom) A 5yr-old from the David Thomas stable – and the damline gives us reason to follow this one too. Averilās Atom has managed to leave some exciting types in years gone by with her standout daughters including Averilās Quest, a 9-time winner by Badlands Hanover, Fizzi Lizzi, an 8-time winner by McArdle, and Shezaball, an 8-time winner by Presidential Ball and mother to the star Cold Chisel (Always B Miki)
Itās a breed that tends to leave very good fillies so Cruise Denario will need to buck that bias and attempt to capture a little bit of glory for the boys of the family.
Cruise Denario looks tidy at recent Mount Hutt workouts.
