Street Art brains them

Classy pacer Street Art (Art Major) returned to his winning ways at the Invercargill Harness Racing Club’s meeting at Ascot Park today (Sep. 14).

Street Art winning easily for trainer Craig Ferguson and driver Nathan Williamson (Bruce Stewart Photo)

He last raced at Addington during Cup Week in the Macca Lodge South of the Waitaki, where he ran fourth after having wind issues.

With all that behind him now the Craig Ferguson trained pacer reminded all of his immense talent, winning his fourth race at just start number five.

Driver Nathan Williamson eased the four year old out of the early rush in the six horse field before taking him forward with 1600 metres to run.

“He went up (to get to the front) and he wouldn’t take it. When he got there he was good, then he goofed down the back straight, running out to the middle,” Williamson said.

In the home straight though the Bathan and Jane Muir owned gelding was too good, beating Miki Knows (Always B Miki) by two lengths.

“He’s not the finished article but once he had company round the last bend he picked the bit up and felt super. Then over the last 200 he was goofing again. He’s got a big motor and the talent’s there.”

STREET ART REPLAY

The winning time was 2-43.8.

“It’s good to have him back and 43 in this wind is a great run. He feels like a horse that the further up in the grades (he goes)  the better he’ll get because there’ll be more speed on and that’ll suit him.”

After the win you could sense the excitement around Street Art who still has a lot of growing up to do.

Williamson said “He’s quite boyish. We were late on the track because he was acting up.”
