While Oamaru harness racing trainer Phil Williamson at present supervises a small team in Auckland, wife Bev and the team at home will bring six trotters south for the Winton meeting on Saturday (Dec. 24).
Contessa’s Pride (Majestic Son) and Kenny’s Charm (Muscle Mass) face the starter in Race Two.
Contessa’s Pride debuted at Winton finishing fifth behind Justine Jaccka (Creatine) and Phil said he was happy enough with the run.
“She did everything right, fought on quite well and they trotted time (went quickly). If she can build on that she should run a good race and have a place chance,” he said.
Kenny’s Charm last raced at Addington in a Group One feature finishing seventh fifteen lengths from the winner, High Energy (Father Patrick).
“She’s a talented enough horse but just a bit immature. We thought we’d give her a go at winning a maiden and she should be a good chance if she gets a reasonable passage.”
In Race Five Groovy L’Amour (Love You) and Our Golden Kenny (Love You) line up for team Williamson.
Groovy L’Armour’s form line has been a bit in and out and she ran a solid fifth at her last start at Winton earlier this month.
“Matt was very happy with her at her last start. He thought she had half a chance when he pulled her out at the top of the straight, but she came up short. I think she’ll be an each way chance in this race.”
Our Golden Kenny has been back to the trials since running eighth on this track in November.
“She’s got a bit of quality about her. She’s a bit inexperienced because we seldom have trials here and the fields are quite small. I think she’s the one they all have to beat.”
Dwindle Star (Muscle Mass) and Pyramid Mystic (Love You) complete Williamson’s day at Central Southland Raceway in Race Eight.

Dwindle Star’s form has tapered off and she’s been galloping in some of her starts.
“The breaking thing is very unusual. She’s normally the most solid horse we’ve got. She’s an outside place chance if she does things right.”
Invercargill Cup Day at Ascot Park was Pyramid Mystic’s last start when she ran second to Wy Fi (Love You).
“She’s always had reasonable ability and she must be an each way chance in that race.”
