A winning turn awaits Scared Stiff (Terror To Love) when he heads a team of five harness racing runners Terry Chmiel takes to Addington on Sunday.
The pacer will attempt to go one better than his last two second placings when he accompanies Lizzie Richter (Sweet Lou), Reflectionsofmylife (Changeover), Flyin Sid (Peak) and Rapid Response (Gold Ace) to the races.
Race 5ās 2000m standing start conditions look ideal for the Scared Stiff who steps back in trip after tackling longer distances.
āHe is an honest bugger and he is going good races,ā Chmiel said.
āHe probably just needs the right trip, he is better with cover.ā
āHe has just found one better in his last couple of starts but he is getting better all the time.ā
Rapid Response comes into his debut after a good second in his latest trial at Ashburton.
The pacer also faces the standing start tapes in race 3.
āHe will get better, whatever he does he will improve on.ā
āHopefully he can draw the front line, he is a good beginner.ā
āHe is a horse that is going to keep improving in the next three months.ā
Chimel starts his honest mare Reflectionsofmylife in race 10 on Sunday.
The pacer has had some down time since her last start and comes into the race fresh.
āShe is coming in fresh, but she has gone some of her best races fresh.ā
āShe seems very bright and well and she is a very honest type.ā
Starting from the unruly looks the biggest challenge for Lizzie Richter in race 4.
The mare ran a good second at Rangiora two starts ago but was too far back in her latest outing at Addington.
āShe has got ability but she is a bit of a handful and a headcase.ā
āWhen she does it right she goes well.ā
āThe unruly is a bit hard for her, but if she got a decent suck into it she would be right.ā
āShe is better over a bit of distance, the 1980m races are just too short for her.ā
āYou canāt get into it from the unruly.ā
Flyin Sid steps out in Chmielās colours in race 6.
The trotter will need to improve on his two starts back from a spell to make an impact.
