This series checks out some of the higher priced yearlings that were purchased at the 2024 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales in Auckland and Christchurch.
In this edition we talk to Scott Phelan about some of the Purdon/Phelan purchases.
- No More Dreaming (Bettorās Delight-Start Dreaming) colt bought by TAB Racing Club for $340,000.
āWeāve just got them in now and theyāre at the end of the first half of their preparation. He (No More Dreaming) seems like a nice colt. Heās got a good attitude and is a nice pacer. Over the next month weāll speed them all up a bit more and see whatās under the bonnet. He definitely looks like a two year old. All the brothers have run early,ā Scott said.
- War Party (Bettorās Delight ā Democrat Party) colt bought by Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan Racing Stables for $240,000.
āHeās a good pacer. Heās a nice colt whoās not the biggest, but heās stocky.ā
- Unnamed (Captaintreacherous ā Delight In Me) colt bought by Montana Park for $220,000.
āHeās a big horse and heās got a massive stride on him. The Captaintreacherousās present themselves well on the track. He looks as though heāll be an early horse.ā
- Mumaās Wish (Bettorās Wish ā Pistol Packing Mama) colt bought by Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan Racing Stables for $100,000.
āHeās a big clump of a horse that doesnāt look a natural early two year old. The back half of that season will be more to his liking.ā
- Fly High (Bettorās Wish ā Flyover) filly bought by Barry Purdon Racing Stables for $32,000.
āSheās a half sister to Jeremiah. We didnāt pay much for her. It probably helped that we had Jeremiah and that was the reason that pointed us towards her. Sheās a nice enough filly.ā
