Monticello, NY—It was a beautiful day for harness racing at Monticello Raceway for their $7,200 Open Trot on Wednesday (Jul. 26).
Out of the gate, Lovecrunches (Jim Devaux) took an early lead with 16-1 Keegan Ho (Mr. Cantab) and driver Fern Paquet, Jr. on the inside and Chip Chip Conway (Jimmy Taggart, Jr.) from the outside.
They went by the quarter mile in :28.3 with Lovecrunches still in the lead by a length. Moving around past the clubhouse to the half mile in :59.3, Lovecrunches was still maintaining the early lead over the race favorite Chip Chip Conway, who was parked out first-over.
Past the three quarters in 1:27 it was Lovecrunches putting away Chip Chip Conway on the outside with Keegan Ho still hanging on in the two-hole spot.
On the final turn, Keegan Ho reclaimed second place from Chip Chip Conway and came after race leader Lovecrunches. Keegan Ho was able to collar Lovecrunches in the stretch and win by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:57.4. Lovecruches finished second. In a photo finish, Chip Chip Conway was third over Patrick Hanover.
