Amigo Volo (Father Patrick) was able to hold on by just a few inches in capturing the $39,000 Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway Friday evening (June 10).
The 8th race feature saw Hillexotic and harness racing driver George Brennan leave from post three and grab the early lead but not for long as Jason Bartlett wanted command and sent race favorite Amigo Volo right to the front after an opening quarter mile in :27.3.
As they came to the half mile there was little movement as Amigo Volo let the way in :57. Then to the backstretch where Eurobond (Matt Kakaley) came first-over with Street Gossip (Jordan Stratton) grabbing the second-over live cover.
Past the three-quarters in 1:25.2, it shaped up to be a two-horse dash to the wire and what a dash it was.
Brennan came out of the pocket with Hillexotic and started after Amigo Hall and Bartlett and try as they might they just could not catch them at the wire. Amigo Volo won by a half a head in 1:53.3. Stormy Kromer (Dan Dube) was third.
AMIGO VOLO REPLAY
It was the second win in four starts this year for Amigo Volo. The five-year-old gelding is trained by Nifty Norman for the Pinkse Stable and David Miller. He paid $3.10 to win.
