Monticello, NY— Barley A Sin (Charley Barley) took the lead right out of the gate and kept it until he crossed the wire, capturing the harness racing victory in the $5,100 pace at Monticello Raceway on Thursday (Aug. 31).
Race favorite Barley A Sin took the early lead out of the gate for driver Brandon Parker, with American Stock (Mcgwire Sowers) in second and Tommy Three Sticks on the inside in third. On the far outside, Bruce Aldrich Jr and Dunes Beach made their way to the two hole as they passed the quarter mile in :28.2.
Barley A Sin and Dunes Beach were fighting for the lead. As they neared the half mile mark in :57.3, the Barley A Sin made a break but was able to recoup and stayed on the lead, with Dunes Beach on the outside in second and Kyle Dibenedetto had the pocket trip Tommy Three Sticks in third.
Brandon Parker had Barley A Sin holding on to the lead by a little over a length over Tommy Three Sticks, who took second from Dunes Beach as they passed the three quarters in 1:27.1.
Midway around the final turn, Tommy Three Sticks rushed to challenge the leader, but Barley A Sin crossed the wire first in 1:57.1 to win by just a neck. Tommy Three Sticks finished second and Rufflemania (Jim Taggart Jr) came in third.

Barley A Sin, a 4-year-old gelding, is trained by Rob Harmon for owners Anthony and Michael Hill. He paid $4.30 to win.
