After notching victories in his first two starts of the 2024 harness racing season, Carbine (Somebeachsomewhere) was off his mark the last three starts but return to his winning ways Thursday (Feb. 22) at Miami Valley Raceway.
Sent off as the race favorite in the 10th race $34,000 Open Handicap Pace, driver Trace Tetrick took no chances with Carbine as they torn away from post five in the 10-horse field and shot right to the early lead. They raced over a track labled good with a one-second allowance from the judges.
Cutting the mile to the opening quarter in :26.1, Carbine held off a minor challenge by Makin Some Noise (Kurt Sugg) who dropped right into the two-hole spot. Meanwhile, Brookview Bullet (Josh Sutton) was trapped first-over in fourth place as Carbine continued to lead to the half mile in :53.4.
As they raced down the backstretch, Big Booty Rudy (Dan Noble) moved second-over, but Brookview Bullet failed to advance as Carbine took the field to the three-quarters in 1:21.3.
By the top of the stretch, it was too little too late as Tetrick got Carbine into gear and they tore away from the field to win with ease by three and one-quarter lengths in 1:49. The pocket-sitting Makin Some Noise was second with Howard Hughes N (Austin Hanners) third.
CARBINE REPLAY
Notching his third win of the season, it was also the fastest win so far in 2024 for Carbine. The six-year-old stallion is trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. for Odds On Racing and paid $5.00 to win.
