Jennie Ann (Lettherockbegin) and harness racing driver Rob Anderson were the lone mare in race eight on Sunday (Aug. 18) at What Cheer, Iowa, featuring Iowa-Registered 3 Years and Older Pacers.Ā Assigned the rail, the seven-year-old Iowa veteran was unfazed by the competition.
When the starting gates folded, Sneaknthruthenight (Mark Mintun) paced out to take an early lead, but Hangman McGee (Adam Hauser) charged ahead to take command.Ā Reaching the quarter in 29.0, Hangman McGee led the field, with Sneaknthruthenight sitting in the pocket and Jennie Ann third on the rail.
Coming up on the outside, Overtheedgeofhonor (Royal Roland) made a bold move to challenge Hangman McGee as they reached the half-way point.Ā True to his name, Hangman McGee kept Overtheedgeofhonor hung while they raced towards the backside.Ā Seeing the opportunity for cover, Jennie Anne pulled to race behind Overtheedgeofhonor, with Minnie Vinnie (Kolton Hauser) following suit.
Managing to clear as he passed the three-quarter-pole, Overtheedgeofhonor took the lead, with Jennie Ann tracking in full gear.Ā Rounding the final turn, Overtheedgeofhonor and Jennie Ann raced in tandem, both looking for the finish line.Ā As the leaders charged down the lane, Jennie Ann found a little more, continuing to gain ground.Ā Picking up the win by a neck, Jennie Ann paced her mile in 1:58.2, the fastest mile of the day.
Iowa racing resumes for two days at What Cheer, Saturday (8/24) and Sunday (8/25).Ā Post time for both days is scheduled for 12:30pm CST.
