Given a perfect two-hole trip by harness racing driver Brett Miller, 9-1 Hard Cold Cash (Dali) came on in the stretch to capture the $25,000 final of the Claim To Fame Series Monday (Jan. 23) at Miami Valley Raceway.
Parked out by Hard Colt Cash to the opening quarter mile, Always At My Place (Dan Noble) took command of the race in :26.4 for the opening panel.
Always At My Place led the field to the half mile in :55.4 with Stateline Action (Luke Hanners) trying to rush up first-over but could never get beyond third place on the outside through the three-quarters in 1:24.
On the final turn Miller started up first-over with Hard Cold Cash and by the top of the stretch had collared Always At My Place with the rail sitting Motor City Man (Tyler Smith) moving into contention.
Coming to the wire, Hard Cold Cash was well in command, winning one and three-quarter lengths in 1:53.1. Motor City Man was second with Always At My Place third. The race favorite, Play Jet Ray, never was in the hunt from post eight and later made a break in the race.
HARD COLD CASH REPLAY
The series was for $12,500 claimers. It was the third win in four starts this season for Hard Cold Cash, an 11-year-old stallion now trainer by Jason Brewer for owner Ameer Najor. Hard Cold Cash paid $20.60 to win.
