It’s Over – Standardbred Retirement Foundation

 

These guys are being picked up now Not My Man, Jessido, Goldie's Tune, Rhapwiththestars. They will need homes, that hasn't changed, but for now they are safe from the horrors of slaughter.

 

Photos are not available, as pick up is being arranged now, but here are Danny's Glory and Hackberry's Roy in their foster homes, they are two from this group. They are exhausted.

 

The lives of these horses fall solely on caring people; SRF puts this kindness into play. Everyone who helped can share together in this comforting result. The next effort for SRF is finding adoptive homes for those in foster care or being boarded with sponsorship support. For SRF, it isn't over yet. It's never over because SRF will do all it can to make sure every one of these horses will never be at risk again. That is the next monumental task in line, certainly a very important one.

 

It's disgraceful that an industry of such size does not address this cruel issue. The race horse business model does not work with the action of cruelty to animals as the "by-product". When racing was a fun Sunday sport and the streets were named Race Street, for that reason, and horses went back to their homes the same day, it may have worked. But the greed now doesn't. The few people who love the sport and the horses, are way too few.
