Harness racing driver Trae Porter and Leonard’s Legacy (Tobago Cays) had poor drawing luck two weeks in a row which prevented him from being a factor at Rosecroft Raceway’s $17,500 top open level.
Thursday night (March 16), the six-year-old gelding finally drew inside the razor-sharp Island Of The Sea and sprinted to a 1:50.2 win for Breeder-Owner Leonard Hubbard and Trainer Basil Sapienza.
Leaving from post six, Porter twice claimed the lead before the 3/8th mark and would not relinquish it the rest of the way. Island Of the Sea, who had won the previous two Preferred Handicaps, suffered amidst severe traffic from bad cover and was never a factor.
Leonard’s Legacy posts a 10-4-1-0 ledger in 2023 and is closing in on $250,000 with 18 wins in 87 career starts.
LEONARD’S LEGACY REPLAY
Driver John Wagner won three times, taking the $12,500 Open 2 with Cousin Brucie in a 7-1 upset. It keyed a Jackpot Hi-5 winning ticket of $32,212.10 for the single winner. It was one of two wins for Trainer Thomas Lord on the night.
Russell Foster picked up an Open I category win with Techtopia Hanover, a horse trained by his wife Megan and co-owned with Arty Foster III.
Jonathan Roberts drove two winners and Trainer John Hollingsworth posted two wins.
