Monticello, NY— Despite being the longest shot on the tote board at odds of 34-1, Raceace (Yankee Glide) was able to surprise everyone in capturing the $7,200O Open Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (Aug. 30).
Harness racing driver Alan Schwartz and Raceace went for the early lead out of the gate with Chip Chip Conway (Jim Taggart Jr.) on the extreme outside. Raceace refused to give up the lead with Chip Chip Conway following in second and Winning Legends in third as they passed the quarter mile in :27.4.
Justin Huckabone led the 2-5 favorite Winning Legends out of the three hole to challenge the leader. At the half mile, Raceace was still fighting for the lead with Chip Chip Conway close behind in :58.
Winning Legends challenged Raceace’s lead from the outside, pushing Chip Chip Conway to third. Just A Passenger came up to take his place as they passed the three quarters in 1:28.
Midway around the final turn, Raceace was leading on the inside with Winning Legends on the outside. Gregory Merton had Just A Passenger following in third.
Raceace was in full control down the stretch, crossing the wire first in 1:59.1. He won by one and three-quarter lengths. Winning Legends finished second and Just A Passenger came in third.

Raceace, a 7-year-old gelding, is owned, trained, and driven by Alan Schwartz. He paid $71.50 to win.
