Leading from start to finish and adding a last quarter kick of :27.3, Makin Some Noise (Always B Miki) and harness racing driver Kayne Kauffman made easy work of winning the $34,000 Open Handicap Pace at Miami Valley Raceway Thursday (March 21).
Leaving from post five in the 10th race feature, Kauffman sent Makin Some Noise right to the front and they never had to look back again.
Cutting the mile to the first quarter in a speedy :26, Makin Some Noise then led to the half mile in :55 as last week’s winner, Artatac A (Dan Noble), was first-over in third with Bernie (Sam Widger) sat the two-hole trip with Shamwow (Josh Sutton) second-over.
Down the backstretch, Makin Some Noise felt little pressure from the first-over Artatac A, holding the field at bay passing the three-quarters in 1:22.
Makin Some Noise then picked up some additional speed on the final turn, leading by two and one-half lengths by the top of the stretch and then pulled away in front of the stands to win with ease by three and three-quarter lengths in 1:49.3. Artatac A was second with Bernie third.
MAKIN SOME NOISE REPLAY
It was the fourth win on the season for Makin Some Noise. The six-year-old gelding is trained by Ed Miller for owner Rebecca Sugg and paid $3.60 to win as the race favorite.
