A pair of Opens shared the Friday harness racing spotlight at Northville Downs as six-year-old pacing mare She The North (Sunshine Beach – Western Jewel) with driver Kody Massey and five-year-old trotting horse Plumville Prince (Father Patrick – Lady Athens) and driver Kody Massey won their respective divisions.
In race seven, the co-featured top trot was taken by Plumville Prince who was parked out past the quarter then cleared before the half to never look back in a final clocking of 1:56.4, just one fifth of a second off of the Northville track record for an aged trotting horse. Holton, who won the Open last week, overcame traffic trouble to be second and Saulsgood finished third. The win marked the sixth time Plumville Prince has gotten to the winner’s circle. He is owned by Harvey Byler and trained by Chris Allen.
PLUMVILLE PRINCE REPLAY
In the co-featured event for mares (race eight), She The North utilized a second-up position to close into the race to win the Mares Open Pace in 1:55.2. She The North staved off challenges from Coqui Coqui, Eyes Don’t Lie and Racing Life down the stretch to earn her 13th career win. She is owned by Fly Fancy Stables and is also trained by Chris Allen. Eyes Don’t Lie settled for second money and Racing Life closed well for third.
