DAYTON, OH – A taxing :25.4 first quarter mile was the ingredient needed for Family Recipe to cook up another winner, his eighth on the harness racing season, in Hollywood Dayton’s featured $30,000 Open I Pace on Saturday (Nov. 13).
The 4-year-old gelded son of Always A Virgin has now banked $130,066 in 2021 with his time split between Ohio and Indiana. With driver Chris Page, in the sulky for trainer LeWayne Miller, Page was content to watch the early speed duel between Father Ted GB (Dan Noble) and favored Kiss Of Terror (Josh Sutton) before seizing the opportunity to challenge the pacesetters first-over for the middle half of the race.
They eventually tired and then Family Recipe proceeded to the wire an open lengths winner in 1:51.2. Ginger Tree Marty (Jason Beattie) won a blanket photo finish for second with Sectionline Bigry (Tyler Smith) and Father Ted GB next to cross the finish line. Butter Bay Hanover (Shawn Barker II) and My Hero Ron (Brett Miller) also earned checks.
Trainer Miller co-owns the winner with A. Manders, J. Vieira and the Never 2 Late Stable. He easily eclipsed the $300,000 earnings plateau with his 15th career triumph, and returned $9.20 to his $2 backers.
