Despite a two-month layoff since his last harness racing start, a winning effort on January 8, Smokinig Jet (Triumphant Caviar) came back with a flourish Wednesday (March 29) in winning the $30,000 Open Trot at Miami Valley Raceway.
The 11th race feature saw Tough Muscle (Tyler Smith) leaving from post seven to take the early lead with Dontforgetlittlman (Dan Noble) sitting the two-hole trip as they were racing single file to the first quarter in :28.
Tough Muscle led the field past the half mile in :56.4. That was when Rose Run Valor (Kayne Kauffman) came first-over with race favorite Smoking Jet and driver Chris Page second-over as they raced down the backstretch tripping the three-quarter timer at 1:25.1.
On the final turn, Page fanned three-wide with Smoking Jet and they had plenty of momentum, passing by the field in the stretch and holding off the late closing Fawn De Touch (Tony Hall) to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:54. Rose Run Valor was third.
SMOKING JET REPLAY
Now undefeated in two starts this year, Smoking Jet is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing Stable, LLC, Weaver Bruscemi, LLC and Chris Page.
First leg action in the Dr. Dan Farwick Memorial trotting series for non-winners of 6 races took place on Wednesday as well.Ā Winners were Yo Mister (Brett Miller, $5, 1:54.4) over Masculine Hill (Kauffman) and Sandis Commando L (Hank LeVan); and Jusmakinyalook (Jordan Ross, $4, 1:54.3) over Ferretti (Hall) and Prank Me (Trace Tetrick).
Racing resumes Thursday with the usual 4 p.m. post time at Miami Valley.
