Harness racing pacer South Beach Star (Somebeachsomewhere) was given a perfect drive by David Miller in capturing the $20,000 Open-Handicap Friday (July 28) at Harrahās Philadelphia, beating race favorite Ruthless Hanover.
The 7th race feature saw Ruthless Hanover (Tim Tetrick), the race favorite got right out to the lead from post six with Miller getting the two-hole trip with South Beach Star.
With no one able to challenge, Ruthless Hanover cut fractions of :26.2, :54.3 and 1:21.2 before Miller pulled the pocket and came after the race leader with South Beach Star.
It took most of the stretch drive to collar the race leader and then beat him to the wire to win by a half a length in 1:48.1. Southwind Gendry (Simon Allard) was third.
SOUTH BEACH STAR REPLAY
It was the eighth win of the year for South Beach Star. His time of 1:48.1 on a five-eighths mile track is his new lifetime record. He is trained by Mark Silva for All Star Racing, Inc. and paid $9.80 to win.
