Speed Man N, given a perfect two-hole trip by harness racing driver Jason Bartlett, was able to soundly defeat seven rivals in capturing the $39,000 Open Pace at Yonkers Raceway Monday.
The ninth race feature started off with race favorite Dragon Said and driver Joe Bongiorno scooting right to the early lead with Speed Man N getting the two-hole trip as they sped to the first quarter in :27.2.
They raced single file through the half mile marker in :55.4 before the action began to heat up.
It was Funatthebeach N and driver Jordan Stratton who started up first-over with Semi Tough (George Brennan) gabbing in second-over position as they passed the three-quarters in 1:23.2. Funatthebeach N tried as he might but was unable to collar Dragon Said by the top of the stretch.
Then in the stretch, as Dragon Said began to bear out, Barlett saw daylight along the rail and once he moved Speed Man N into position, they took off in late mid-stretch to win by one and one-quarter lengths in 1:51.2. Dragon Said held for second place with Funatthebeach N third.
SPEED MAN N REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark for the eight-year-old gelded son of Rocknroll Hanover and his second win this year for trainer Doug Dilloian, Jr. Speed Man N paced his last quarter mile in an impressive :27.4. He is co-owned by the Dilloian Stable and the Pit Bull Stables, LLC, both of New Jersey. He paid $12.40 to win.
