Two-year-old pacing fillies were in the harness racing limelight at Harrah’s Philadelphia Thursday (Aug. 17) competing in two $83,361 divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes.
Both divisions were won in identical times and by the race favorites, but the way they were raced were quite opposite.
The 7th race first division saw Miraculous Deo (Stay Hungry) scoot out to the early lead for driver Todd McCarthy with Sweet Gal (Sweet Lou) getting the early two-hole trip to the first quarter in :26.3.
Then race favorite and unbeaten Lyons Legend (Stay Hungry) was sent to the front by driver Tim Tetrick and the race was history.
Lyons Legend led to the half mile in :55 with the field in single file and with no one challenging, they remained on the lead at the three-quarters in 1:22.3.
Coming off the final turn, Lyons Legend began to pull away from the field, leading by three lengths at the top of the stretch and then made a romp, winning by six and one-half lengths in 1:50.2. Sweet Gal was second with Miraculou Deo third.
LYONS LEGEND REPLAY
It was the fifth straight win for undefeated Lyons Legend and a lifetime mark. She is trained by Jim King, Jr. for Threelyonsracing and she paid $3.40 to win.
Then in the 11th race co-feature it was the same pattern as the first divison with Sarasota Hanover (Stay Hungry) going out to the early lead from post seven with Chiapanecas (Stay Hungry) getting the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :26.4.
Sitting third was Caviart Belle (Captaintreacherous) and driver Yannick Gingras and they came first-over and took over the lead, cutting the mile to the half in :55.2 and the three-quarters in 1:22.4.
Only in this race, My Girl Ej (Sweet Lou) and driver Chris Page came first-over from fourth place and started to gain ground on Caviart Belle, who had a two and one-half length lead at the top of the stretch.
My Girl Ej kept gaining ground, but Caviart Belle proved to be too tough, digging in late to win by a half a length in 1:50.2 over My Girl Ej with Pass And Stow (Betting Line) third for driver Dexter Dunn.
CAVIART BELLE REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark also for Caviart Belle, her second straight win and third of the season. She is trained by Nancy Takter for Caviart Farms and she paid $3.40 to win.
