Showing some first-over true grit, Uluru (Bar Hopping) and harness racing driver Simon Allard, were able to grind it out first-over and then pull away in the stretch in winning the $13,000 feature trot Monday (July 31) at Pocono Downs.
With the race favorite, Rosita (Tyler Buter) off-stride at the start of the 8th race, Barcelona Princess (Braxton Boyd) went right to the lead with Divine Zette (Matt Kakaley) briefly in the two-hole until going off-stride before the first quarter in :27.2.
With Barcelona Princess dictating the fractions, they went to the half mile in :57.1 with Ten Count (Ridge Warren) in the two-hole. Then Uluru, at odds of 7-1, who was racing in third place, came first-over as they passed the three-quarters in 1:26.3.
As they came around the final turn, Uluru had collared Barcelona Princess by the top of the stretch and then pulled away from the field to win with ease by two and one-half lengths in 1:56.2. Gadot Hanover (George Napolitano, Jr.) was second with Ten Count third.
ULURU REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark and the second win this year for Uluru, who is trained by Fred Grant for owner/breeder Russell Williams. She paid $16.60 to win.
