Monticello, NY— The 1-2 harness racing favorite We Shall Sea (Downbytheseaside) set sail in the $5,600 pace at Monticello Raceway on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 28) and had the wind at his back all the way.
Beantownboy (Mcgwire Sowers) flew out of the gate for the early lead. Cr Dudley (Rick Harp) followed in second and We Shall Sea (Cory Stratton) started to close in from the far outside in third. As they passed the quarter mile in :27.1, We Shall Sea took the lead from Beantownboy.
We Shall Sea was still the leader, with Beantownboy following in second and Cr Dudley in third as they passed the half mile in :57.
We Shall Sea had the lead by a length-and-a-quarter over pocket-tripper Beantownboy. Little Guy (Jim Taggart Jr) rushed from the outside, moving in to challenge Beantownboy for second. They passed the three-quarters in 1:26.2.
We Shall Sea crossed the wire in 1:55, two lengths ahead of Beantownboy. River Of Life (Brad Irvine) came in third.
WE SHALL SEA REPLAY
We Shall Sea is a 3-year-old gelding trained by Victoria Stratton for owners Stratton Stable Inc and Stratton Racing Inc. He paid $3.10 to win. He had just raced at Delaware County Fair, where he came in second, with a time of 1:53.
Racing at Monticello Raceway resumes Monday, October 2. Post time is 12:10 p.m.
