Charlottetown, PE – He did it. Harness racing driver Walter Cheverie captured his 2500th career win taking the Friday night feature aboard Likely To Win at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Cheverie vacated the two hole on route to the opening quarter to put the Adam Merner trainee on the point and flashed through fractions of 28.2, 58.4 and 1:29 before battling all the way to wire to win by a nose over Tempo Seelster (Vince Poulton) and Van Zant (Ron Matheson). The time of mile was 1:59.4. Likely To Win is owned by Blenise Young, Lester Campbell, NS and Jeffery Campbell, Alberta.
The veteran driver recorded his first lifetime win in 1984 and notched his 1000th win in 1999 at Truro Raceway.
Jason Hughes and Gary Chappell recorded driving doubles.
