Tonight’s Group 1 Rosslands Queen Of Hearts going for $100,000 should be a battle between the aged harness racing star Dream About Me and the pretender to the crown Elle Mac.
Dream About Me, now a seasoned six-year-old, has been a brilliant race mare and a star for breeder Charlie Roberts winning 22 races from 37 starts for earnings of just over a million dollars. Her recent New Zealand Cup placing stamped her as a very special race mare. She was an easy winner of The Breeder’s Stakes last week and she won this race two years ago. She is also unbeaten in seven starts at Alexandra Park. She deserves to be the favourite.
On the other hand she has a serious contender this week in the form of the young pretender Elle Mac. Elle Mac was sold through the 2016 sales as Lot 33 to high-profile Australian buyer Jean Feiss for $51,000 and is the winner of 10 races, five of these at Group 1 level and four of those at Alexandra Park, for stake earnings of $492,127 and has set three NZ Records.
Elle Mac now a four-year-old is having her fifth run back in The Queen Of Hearts. She has faced Dream About Me twice in this campaign, once breaking at the start and taking no part. Thefixer won this race with Dream About Me finishing second and then Elle Mac raced against Dream About Me last week finishing second but making ground right to the wire. Elle Mac’s run was exceptional after working hard for the front over the first 800 meters
Here is that race;
I believe Elle Mac is about to turn the tables on her illustrious stable mate in $100,000 The Rosslands Queen Of Hearts tonight. We will see!
