HARRINGTON, Del. – The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes for harness racing 3-year-olds started their second round of the week at Harrington Raceway Tuesday as the filly pacers went post ward in a pair of $20,000 legs.
Delle Donne ($6.80, Corey Callahan) pulled off a minor upset in the first division as 1-to-5 favorite Cougar Creek made an early break and was placed last after being disqualified from her third place finish for interference with trailing horses. Meanwhile, Delle Donne was a front-stepping 1:55.2 winner over Mortgage Bags.
An Art Director-sired filly, Delle Donne notched her fifth lifetime win for trainer Dylan Davis. Artist Blues finished fourth and was placed third.
The second division went to Kdk Standardbreds' Apple Bottom Jeans ($3.20, Montrell Teague) who forged a three-wide bid up the backstretch and eventually reeled in pacesetter Use Your Noodle at the wire in 1:54.1. Trained by Kevin Switzer, it was the seventh lifetime win in 14 career starts for the daughter of Mr. Apples. Rowdy Patti was third. It was one of three driving winners for Teague.
In the $16,000 Mares Open overnight feature, Jo Ann Looney-King's Purrfect Bags ($3.20, Victor Kirby) was victorious for the second straight start in 1:52.4 over Hostess Lisa and Quotable Quotes. The 4-year-old Roddy's Bags Again mare made a three-wide charge near three-quarters and drew clear of the tiring leaders to prevail by more than a length.
George Dennis and Jason Lynch each had a driving double.
DSBF racing will continue Wednesday with four divisions for trotters.
