Take a quick glance over this Thursday night’s fields, and you might see a typical Forbury Park Trotting Club meeting, large and even fields.
But it’s not until you look a little deeper that you spot a few stand outs:
The first race of the night sees Its Elvis make his debut.
A full brother to smart trotter Its Oscar (7 wins) who started his career with trainer Darryn Simpson before heading up north to race out of the Tony Herlihy barn, Its Elvis looks to have inherited some of his brother’s ability, after two tidy trial wins.
“He’s a nice horse in the making who will handle the 2700m. Considering he’s only had the two tame trials, I expect him to improve on whatever he does.” said trainer Darryn Simpson.
Simpson also gave a strong push for his other runner for the night Montmorensy.
Finishing 2nd beaten only 2.8L behind Oaks filly Alderbeck last week, the 4yo Monarchy trotter looks a great each way bet.
“Montmorensy has been jumping out of his skin since his last run, he pulled up super and I expect him to put in good performance” said Darryn.
When asked who was the best chance of the night Simpson had Montmorensy just on top of Its Elvis due to race day experience .
Race 2 sees handy 3yo Onedin’s Delight drop back to a winnable race after running behind the likes of Heaven Rocks and Major Ben.
Onedin’s Delight comes into barrier 1 with the aid of a scratching and looks tough to beat with the services of leading driver Dexter Dunn.
In Race 5, Father Christmas looks to be a possible anchor for those taking a pick6 ticket. A last start 5th behind superstar trotter Monbet will see him start a short priced favourite.
“He looks tough to beat and would have to be my best drive of the night” said driver Brad Williamson.
Another anchor sticks out in Race 7.
The Ken Barron trained/Blair Orange driven Chittybangbang finds himself perfectly drawn in barrier 1.
A winner 3 starts back in a 1.58 mile rate, Chittybangbang looks the one in a race without much race day form.
The final race of the night sees the 5yo and older pacers do battle. Forbury have once again been rewarded for putting on this race, with a decent sized field assembled.
Northview Gambler finds himself stepping significantly down in grade after his last couple of starts. Dexter Dunn jumps on and comes up with a favourable draw that should see the 6yo Bettor’s Delight gelding fighting out the finish.
