Two horses made it three from three on Thursday 14th July at Corbiewood on a night of multiple achievements for horses and drivers alike. Vyrnwy Smoke was partnered by his third different driver in as many weeks, this time in the shape of former-English Premier League footballer Sean Kilgannon, who notched up his first driving win.
This was a follow on from last week when Carol McPhail recorded her first driving win at the age of 48, backing up her daughter Lauren Moran's victory a fortnight previous with the horse. Starzapan also made it three on the run for driver Stuart Mackenzie and Trackside Racing Stables, giving Stuart his second driving double in two consecutive weeks for the in-form stables.
The first of six races was a five horse maiden event. After a false start, it was the two-year-old Victoria Camden who led out with Grant Cullen in the bike.
Together they set good fractions, with the first challenge coming from Just A Little (William Greenhorn). After seeing this initial challenge off, Mooreside Watson (Richard Thomson) then tipped three wide to mount the second challenge in the race; again the filly maintained her commanding position and came home a convincing winner, setting a new fillies track record of 2.05.9, smashing the previous record held by champion juvenile Rhyds Topaz which was set in 2010. This filly looks to have a bright future ahead of her for owner Bobby Rowan and connections.

In the second, a novice class pace, last week's runner up Yokalady and Scott Murray led out and travelled smoothly in front. An altercation further back in the field hampered some runners; Ayr Jubilee (William Greenhorn) mounted a persistent challenge from the half mile marker, keeping the leader under pressure to the line. New London Hanover (Gordon Gilvear) was looking for racing room and when the break came down the home straight made massive headway to finish third.
Yokalady gave driver Scott Murray his first win for 14 months after several weeks of knocking on the door.

Race three saw young driver Ross Leary blast Miami Seelster out of the gate and set blazing fractions; the horse remained virtually unchallenged until the final eighth, when My Left Foot (George Drysdale) emerged from the chasing pack with a well-timed, cool drive from his experienced reinsman to win well.
Anniejoan (Brian Gilvear), who was parked two wide throughout, passed a fading Miami Seelster on the line to take second.

In the fourth, Vyrnwy Smoke (Sean Kilgannon) and Bayrigg Tonto (Lee Cattigan) became embroiled in an early speed duel, setting serious fractions for the first half. Bayrigg Tonto finally relented after the duo reached the half in 1.00.8 and tucked in on the rail, leaving Vyrnwy Smoke to continue his rich vein of form to come home unchallenged in the second half of the race, giving driver Sean Kilgannon his first win on board.
Kasbest (Mick Grealis) and Wellfield Alfie (George Drysdale), despite never reaching challenging positions, both ran well to take the minor honours.

The penultimate event saw eight runners go to post. Ross Leary stuck to his earlier tactics and blasted catch drive Bestinthewest out of the gate, with Kikis Virtue (Stuart Mackenzie) settling in second. The two protagonists continued in the same manner, with Kikis Virtue stalking the leader throughout, tipping out just after the three quarters to mount a serious challenge which became the race-winning manoeuvre.
This was a back to back victory for the mare, trained by Ally Mackenzie for Trackside Racing Stables. The veteran Artisan (William Greenhorn) stayed on for third.

The final race was for the 8 top handicapped horses; Starzapan and Stuart Mackenzie led out and dictated level fractions from on top. A brief challenge came from Dontstoptheparty (Brian Gilvear) however the result was never in doubt and the mare won her third in a row, giving Stuart back to back winners on the night, and his second driving double for the second week running.
Trackside Racing Stables have now fielded five consecutive winners from five consecutive starts, with trainer Ally Mackenzie saying 'there's more to come!'.
