WILKES-BARRE PA – Jins Dragon, with his maternal pedigree proudly shining through on a cold, wet, and windy Saturday night, made it three wins in a row since coming to The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, taking the $18,000 featured handicap pace in 1:53.1.
The Dragon Again gelding is out of Gordons Jin Ms, who set world records at two and three over the red clay oval at The Downs, and Jins Dragon, coming in to Pocono off a checkless start against bottom conditioned foes at The Meadows, has really stepped up his game locally, here making an early move to the top and going on to a two length win for driver George Napolitano Jr., trainer Michael Rashkin and owner Howard Taylor.
But if Jins Dragon is going to run his win streak to four, he'll be doing it for a new barn, as the winner was haltered out of the race for the $25,000 claiming price by Team Allard, partnering with Ameer Najor on the purchase. In his new stable he'll be alongside another horse who also is perfect in three Pocono outings – Kings Barns, who took the $15,500 top conditioned pace in 1:52 for the Allard brothers, driver Simon and trainer Rene.
Not too many horses come from fourth-inside at the 5/8 to win at Pocono, but the Western Terror gelding Kings Barns angled outside for clearance and outpaced 58-1 shot Humility, who was fifth-inside but got through in the Pocono Pike, in getting the nod for VIP Internet Stable LLC and Allard Racing Inc.
In the top conditioned trot, also worth $15,500, the Kadabra gelding P L Houdini was moved to the lead past the quarter by driver Anthony Napolitano and controlled the race thereafter, crossing under the wire in 1:55.4. Michael Sinclair conditions the winner, who has now taken three of his last five starts, for owner Brianne Good.
Racing continues tomorrow night at The Downs, with the new 7:30 p.m. Sunday post time producing an increase of over 60% in its first week of implementation. Featured will be the second preliminary leg of the Bobby Weiss Series for pacers, with three $15,000 cuts for males and four for females.
