The Methven harness racing track is responding well to the reseeding of the grass surface according to Methven trotting club president Ricky May. The work to patch up any bad areas of the surface started in March this year and the track will be ready for the Methven spring meeting on the 18th September 2016. Hopefully the track will be in great condition if the weather plays its part says Ricky, all we need are some good fine spells to bring on the spring growth.
Methven has been the scene of some great grass track racing over the years and the Methven Cup at the October meeting now plays a major part in lead-up racing to the New Zealand cup in November. Two time New Zealand cup winner and now sire Flashing Red won the Methven cup in 2006 and went on to win the New Zealand cup later that year. Methven has also been the scene of some massive dividends over the years with the track often described as a punters graveyard.
On 10th October 2010 the last race was run in driving snow, producing one of the more memorable moments in the club's history.
