Blood Money demolished the Exhibition Park Raceway feature pace harness racing field for the second straight week on Saturday.
Dr. Mitchell Downey sent Blood Money to the early lead from post five in a similar move to the one he made on opening day (May 8). Blood Money needed no further instruction from there as he strolled through fractions of :30.2, 1:01, and 1:30.2 and drew away with ease in the stretch. The five-year-old stallion paced strongly to the finish and completed the mile in 1:59.1, five and a quarter lengths ahead of his foes.
Whiskey To Wine (Michael Downey) finished second, completing a one-two for Downey-owned horses. Montrose Hope (John Davidson Sr.) took the show spot.
BLOOD MONEY REPLAY
The winner performed as the betting public expected, returning $2.10 to win.
Saint John resident Mitchell Downey owns and drives Blood Money, a son of Sweet Lou. The horse is now 11-for-35 lifetime and has earned $432,353 in his career. Ellen Stevenson is the conditioner of both Blood Money and Whiskey To Wine.
Mitchell Downey also drove Fall Bliss (1:59) to victory in the second race, another horse he owns.
Exhibition Park will return on Saturday, May 22 and 1:00 p.m. ADT.
