Harness racing’s The Grogfather, a three-year-old gelding by world champion Warrawee Needy, and one of his first crop, continues to carry the flag for his sire in NSW.
The gelding notched his third win from his last five starts and his sixth lifetime when he overcame a difficult barrier draw and a wide passage to win in a 1:55.8 rate at the Bathurst midweek meeting.
Rockindownunder, a three-year-old filly, notched her third win at Penrith, while the Warrawee Needy pair, Needless To Say (1:54, Pocono Downs) and Farro’s Reign (1:57.2, Saratoga Raceway) both saluted in North America.
NSW Sire of the Year Million Dollar Cam was represented by winners in Million Dollar Gem, a mare bred by Yirribee Pacing Stud and a double winner at Buffalo Raceway, New York in 1:57.4 and 1:58.2, and Bill Shannon, who posted his fifth success at Bathurst.
Renaissance Man, who completed his first season at Yirribee last year, led in two winners in the West in Goodonya Mate, a winner in a career-best 1:56.6 at Bunbury, and Flywillowfly, one of two Stud-sired winners at Central Wheatbelt (WA). The other was Cavalry Call, a gelding by Tintin In America, who posted his 14th win and increased his bankroll to $95,000.
