Simon Says Hanover advanced without cover for the second half and unleashed his pace in the stretch to take the Yonkers Raceway harness racing feature on Tuesday.
Scott Zeron worked Simon Says Hanover into the three-hole from post four and sat behind Cheyenne Ryan Lee (Daniel Dube) and Diamondbeach (Austin Siegelman) as they fought for the lead through the opening quarter in :27.2. Zeron pulled Simon Says Hanover first-up passing the half in :56.3 and edged past Diamondbeach, who won the earlier speed duel, by three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Diamondbeach fought back on the inside but gave way in midstretch, which allowed Simon Says Hanover a clear path to victory in 1:52.3. Quagmire Bluechip (Jason Bartlett) followed the winnerās cover to place. Diamondbeach faded but held onto third. The win price was $5.
SIMON SAYS HANOVER REPLAY
Simon Says Hanover, a sophomore colt by Captaintreacherous, has six wins on 13 career starts and more than $75,000 in earnings. Tony Alagna trains for the ownership group of Riverview Racing LLC and Plouffe Head & VJ Stable of Boynton Beach, Brad Grant of Milton, and Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville.
Austin Siegelman had the most driving wins on the day as he kicked off the card with a natural hat trick, but Jim Marohn Jr. stole the spotlight as he earned his 5,000th win in the fourth race with Ourlittlegeneral A. Marohn Jr., a 39-year-old resident of Park Ridge New Jersey, started driving in 2002. He said on Jun. 2 that the 5,000 win milestone would be special to him as he remembers his father hitting that number.
Yonkers Raceway will continue racing on Wednesday, Jun. 16 at 7:15 p.m. EDT with a 10-race card.
