Eye-catching effort from Head Turning Jag

Head Turning Jag roared to victory in the Preferred 2 & 3 Trot at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday in a trip with two explosive moves.

Trevor Henry floated Head Turning Jag out going into the first turn while looking for a spot at the pylons. When his rivals refused to make room, Henry hit the gas on Head Turning Jag, who appeared to have the acceleration of an internal combustion engine as he motored up to take the lead just past the quarter mile marker, which they hit in :28.4.

The horse churned out a :58.4 half and 1:28.3 three-quarters before bursting away from his eight foes to take the victory in 1:58.2 by five lengths. Katch Kanna (Jean Rene Plante) failed to match the leader but held the place spot. Scene A Magician (Greg Dustin) finished third. The winner paid out $8.70 to his backers.

Head Turning Jag is now two-for-two in 2021 and 14-for-88 lifetime. The seven-year-old Angus Hall stallion has earned $235,182 for Robert Pooley of Exeter, who purchased the horse in the 2014 Forest City sale for $18,000. John Cecchin has trained the horse for every career appearance.

Also on the card, Elegance Duharas, a three-year-old daughter of Muscle Mass, won on her debut in the second race. Haras De L’Estrie Inc. of Dunham owns and bred the filly. Denis Gueriel trained and drove.

Austin Sorrie and Paul Mackenzie scored driving doubles, and Gerard Demers trained two winners.
