SUMMERSIDE, PE – With rail control and the “Blue Knight” Jason Hughes in the bike, Chocolate Swirl is marked as the one to beat in Friday’s evening’s top harness racing event at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 11-dash Friday card has a 6 P.M. opening post time with the top class lining up in race 10 for a $2,950 purse.
The Jennifer Doyle trained Chocolate Swirl is the morning line favourite in Friday’s top class. He has yet to find the winner’s circle in the Spring Meet but has garnered a cheque in all five of his outings since the resumption of racing for co-owners Doyle and Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. The six-year-old son of Mach Three was a seven-time winner in 2020 and scored four wins during Winter racing at Red Shores Charlottetown. Moonwriter gets the outside in the compact field of five with David Dowling handling the driving duties for trainer Colin Johnson of Village Green after the pacer won this class the first two cards of racing in Summerside. Soccer Hanover (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) is another top entrant from post 2. Also in the field are Best To Hurst (Taylor Doyle) and Pictonian Storm (Marc Campbell).
The Backstretch Beat in Friday’s card has Chocolate Swirl locked in the win position. “Chocolate Swirl got home well his last start to be a part of the triactor against some stiff competition. Now with rail control we see Jason getting well placed at the start to capitalize on that brush down the stretch. Top call.”
The Ron Cobb Memorial lines up in race 3 for a $1,900 purse with Ruby Rae Crow the favourite from the Kyle Williams barn with Taylor Doyle in the driver’s seat. Other top contenders include Nowhere Man and Fire Jet.
Race 5 is the Red Shores Tailgate Party pace that will see Vicky Everyday as the morning line choice from post 3 with Zach Conway at the lines for his father, owner-trainer Paul Conway of Bonshaw. The daughter of Cougar Hall will have her main opponents in the inside duo of Magical Lily Beat and Slightly Twisted.
