The stars align for Team McCarthy in Constellations Carnival

It is scary to think that there is improvement in all of the winners reinsman Luke McCarthy drove at harness racing’s Albion Park last night.

Headlining the list was two-time Miracle Mile winner King Of Swing who dominated his rivals in the Lucky Creed Open Classic, beating the likes of Turn It Up and Spankem by more than seven metres.

The way the son of Rocknroll Hanover won the 2680m listed event in a rate of 1:58 and a closing quarter of 26.6 seconds is the way you would want your horse to win at the beginning of another major feature race campaign.

“King was jogging,” said McCarthy.

“He felt super and should strip a lot fitter for when he races again in a couple of weeks.”

King Of Swing was part of a treble for McCarthy who opened his winning account with the promising Spirit Of St Louis.

The four-year-old gelding has now remained unbeaten in his two Australian starts with trainer Belinda McCarthy (Luke’s wife).

Spirit Of St Louis was forced to do it tough, facing the breeze, and he powered through the closing two quarters in 27.5 and 27.4 seconds to record a mile rate of 1:57.9.

He ran a personal best 1:55.2 when winning first up for the stable at Goulburn, New South Wales.

‘Team McCarthy’s’ other winner was the talented Expensive Ego who had not raced since winning the $210,000 Australian Pacing Gold Final at Melton, Victoria, on May 1.

Expensive Ego opened his winning account in Queensland clocking 1:54.2.

“Expensive Ego and Spirit Of St Louis were both awesome,” said McCarthy.

“All three winners needed the run.”

Expensive Ego was one of the first pacers to receive an invitation for the inaugural $250,000 The Rising Sun at Albion Park on July 10.
