Penzance Hanover won back to back and wire-to-wire in the Open Pace at Dover Downs as the current race meet came to a close on Thursday night.
Driver Art Stafford Jr. wasted no time and launched Penzance Hanover right to the top.
The even odds betting choice JJ Flynn and driver Allan Davis retreated to the pocket.
Penzance Hanover scorched fractions of :26.2 for the quarter. The half was reached in :54 seconds flat. Numbered Account and driver Tim Tetrick followed a first-over Itsrockandroll A into the backstretch 2nd over on the rim.
Penzance Hanover and Art Stafford Jr. led the field under wraps, to the three quarters in 1:22.3. A pesky Itsrockandroll A, who was parked the entire mile, became leg weary at the top of the stretch. This allowed JJ Flynn and Alan Davis an opportunity to take a clear shot at Penzance Hanover but could not gain on the leader.
Penzance Hanover, a former $25,000 claimer, won by a comfortable length and a half.in 1:49.3. The clocking his lifetime mark.
PENZANCE HANOVER REPLAY
It was Penzance Hanover’s 3rd consecutive victory and back to back tallies in the Open Pace. He paid $11 for the win.
Penzance Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere) is owned, trained and driven by Art Stafford Jr. Stafford Jr has been the hottest driver at Dover Downs over the past month.
JJ Flynn finished a frustrated 2nd for trainer Chuck Crissman Jr. and driver Allan Davis. Itsrockandroll A, who was parked every step of the mile finished 3rd. Dylan Davis was the trainer and Corey Callahan drove.
Earlier in the day leading honors were recognized during the Dover Downs race meeting.
Joe Columbo is the meet’s leading trainer. The meet’s leading driver was Tim Tetrick. The trotter Northern Express was honored as the horse of the meet.
