Down Under Winners with Carter Dalgety

Down Under harness racing driver gets four wins and features.

Down Unders Dexter Dunn continued on his winning patch of form on Saturday night at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. Earlier in the month Dunn drove seven winners on a single card which equalled the all-time record for a driver at the Meadowlands. He backed up that huge night just last Saturday when winning four races and took out two of the feature races on the programme. 

Dexter started the night strong in the first race when he teamed up with trainer Nancy Takter to drive 3yo Trotting filly Adirondack. The daughter of Father Patrick popped a pocket in the stretch to run a slick last quarter in 26.1 and win the $50,000 Trot in a time of 1:52.1. 

He then joined forces with down under trained Mark Harder to drive a 3yo son of American Ideal in Southwind Petyr. The hot favourites made their way to the lead and held off all challenges to win the $15,000 Pace in 1:50.1. 

Soon after he teamed up with another down under trainer in Nifty Norman to drive another produce of American Ideal. This time it was 2yo filly Gotthegreenlight. During the $40,000 Pace Dunn settled the young filly just off the pace and was then angled to racing room and got overtop to take home the winnings in 1:52.4.

Then it came to the Open Pace of the night where 9 top quality pacers went to battle for $50,000. Dunn was aboard the Tony Alagna trained Angers Bayama. The 5yo son of Big Jim was bought back off the starting gate to settle second last, with the world record holder This Is The Plan taking up his usual spot of the lead. The field reached the half in 55.0 and just after Dunn started to creep closer. Turning in, Angers Bayama was a long way off leaders but then rallied to produced one of the most outstanding final sprints seen to scorch home in an absolutely blistering 25.1 seconds. This set him clear by three and a half lengths to win in 1:49.1.

“We stayed out of the early rush,” said Dexter Dunn. “I knew there was going to be a bunch of early speed and wanted to see how it would unfold. He felt like he had pace and when I moved him, he really exploded.”. 

The successful night also consisted of three seconds for Dunn.
