Harness racing news briefs from HRNZ.

Top sire’s progeny top $2m

Majestic Son has become just the second trotting stallion in this country to sire $2m in progeny earnings for a single season. He joins the great Sundon who achieved the feat four times in a row (2007-2010). Among Majestic Son’s highest earning progeny are Sundees Son and Majestic Man.

50 wins for Kevin James

Coincidentally it was another of Majestic Son’s progeny Red Harbour that provided North Canterbury’s Kevin James with his 50th success at Timaru on Sunday. It was the six-year-old’s fourth win this season and eighth overall, while it was James’ fifth success this season. He started training in 1987.

Ricky May on brink of 3000

With a strong book of drives at Forbury Park tomorrow night Ricky May is just two wins away from joining Tony Herlihy and Maurice McKendry in the 3000-win club. He has drives in six of the seven races. Among his better chances are Leconte (R2) and Girls Let Loose (R4).

Terry gets well-earned break

After a hat-trick of wins Terry is heading out for a quick spell. The Regan Todd-trained four-year-old made it three wins in a row in the Timaru Cup on Sunday and will have 3-4 weeks off. His overall record stands at four wins from 13 starts.

Stag party heads north

Following a similar path to Aladdin, Stag Party has headed north from Hayden Cullen’s Rolleston stables. The winner of three from 12, the son of Bettor’s Delight has been sold to clients of Peter Blanchard, who will train the horse in partnership with son Vaughan from their base at Pukekohe.

Atlanta has winning start at The Big M

Superstar trotter Atlanta has made a winning 2021 debut, at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. The six-year-old showed she was ready to resume her great rivalry with Manchego in coming weeks as she won by three quarters of a length, though the time was a leisurely 1:52.3, well off her track record (1:49.1).
