Johnnie Jack jumped out to an early lead and converted it into a wire-to-wire feature harness racing win at Northside Downs on Saturday.
The Travis Campbell trainee floated to the front entering the first turn as his five opponents lined up behind him. Reinsman Ryan Campbell rated the gelding to :30.1 and 1:01.2 first half fractional times over the good surface, and Johnnie Jack turned away the first-up Runaway Mystery (Harold Leblanc) while going to three-quarters in 1:31.3.
Johnnie Jack kept pocket-sitter Hotlikewasabi (Richie Baryluk) at bay in the final quarter and paced home in :28.3 to wrap up a 2:00.1 score. Hotlikewasabi gained slightly in the lane but finished second by a length and a half. Runaway Mystery was third. The $2.10 winner performed as the betting public expected.
