Acefortyfourtalon trumps top condition foes

Acefortyfourtalon upset 3/5 favourite Weatherly in a wire-to-wire feature pace harness racing score on Saturday at Hanover Raceway.

Travis Henry, who won the Preferred 2 at Georgian Downs earlier in the day, extracted enough early speed from Acefortyfourtalon to fire to the front. They hit the quarter mile pole in :29.1 but soon had Weatherly for company as Jean Bernard Renaud tipped that opponent first-over on the backside.

Weatherly grinded down the advantage to a length and a quarter at the half in 1:00.1 and pulled alongside the leader prior to three-quarters in 1:29.2. With a half-mile of first-over fighting wearing on his legs, Weatherly lost ground as the field of six turned for home. Acefortyfourtalon edged away at that point and finished his 25th lifetime win in 1:58.1.

Weatherly found extra pace and held onto second following a tenacious effort. Release The Baby (Ross Battin) earned the show money. The win price was $10.70.

ACEFORTYFOURTALON REPLAY

Acefortyfourtalon’s earnings now total $186,590 lifetime in 235 outings. Rebecca Giesel trains the ten-year-old Daylon Frontier gelding for Suzanne Sloan of Owen Sound.

Bruce Richardson and Colin Kelly both piloted three of their assignments to victory.
